The sons of Mississippi Racing Legend J.D Parker has invited us all to the "Old Timers Racers Reunion" on Sunday Oct. 7 th. The reunion will be held at Gulf Coast Motor Sports Park about 5 miles north of Gulfport Mississippi. This reunion is for any driver, car owner, crew member, crew chief and fans of racing back in the 70's, 60's, 50's, 40's, 30's, or earlier. They want everybody, dirt and asphalt, to come and enjoy the afternoon. All you really need is a lawn chair and a willingness to fellowship with other race fans. This is a family affair so bring everybody. We have oak trees at the track and we will be setting up tents. The reunion will begin around 1:00pm. There will be fried fish, grilled burgers and hot dogs and plenty of fellowship for as long as you want to stay.
Gerald Hodges from Mobile is writing the book about old time southern racing. Gerald wrote the book "The Gene Tapia Story". He will be their and wants to talk to anyone willing to share a story with him about their racing experiences from back then. He wants to put their stories and/or pictures in the book. This is another way we have to save all the old stories of our pioneers.
This is also the last weekend of Cruising the Coast 2007 . Cruising the Coast bring hundreds of vintage cars to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Vintage cars will be everywhere !! Saturday is packed with all kind of Cruising activities. It would be very easy to make a weekend of it.
I know this a short notice but please pass this along to all the old racing pioneers. I would love to see this turn into an annual event. Please check out www.MissChicken.com for directions or contact Jimmy Parker ( jdarbi@bellsouth.com ) if you have any question.
I hope to see you all there.
