Here is the Super Modified that Ival drove at Jackson International Speedway. The 44 is the Saik Brothers team car to the 45 which is posted above. These cars were driven by Bobby Harrell, Ival Cooper and Armond Holley. The 45 didn't race for very long. It was destroyed in a fire at the shop.

Is JIS the swinging bridge speedway now? Or is it a different track?

Jackson International Speedway (JIS) and Swinging Bridge are two Completely different tracks.
JIS was a 1/2 mile Asphalt track just West of Clinton MS near I-20. It ran from 1968 to 1986. And it's true, JIS was the fastest 1/2 mile track in the US at one time. One or two years they ran under NASCAR rules.
Swing Bridge is East of Byram MS off Hwy 49 South. It's a 3/8 mile dirt track.

Well now !! Swinging Bridge was named Jackson Motor Speedway. The new owner renamed it to Swinging Bridge in September 2005. It's easy to get them confused. Over the last 50 years there was: Jackson Motor Speedway 1950-1952 in Jackson Jackson Speedway 1958-1961 in North Jackson Jackson Sports Arena 1961-1967 in North Jackson Jackson International Speedway 1968-1986 in Clinton Jackson Motor Speedway ?-2005 in Byram In talking with all the people who have donated pictures to the Mississippi Racing History Web Site, everyone is confused... You are not alone !!

Was that the car with the all-aluminum 454 Can-Am Chevy engine in it? I remember those cars, and IIRC the team had a Late Model that was painted up the same way if it's the same car I'm thinking of. Ival was driving in the first race I ever saw, it was at Pensacola in probably 1962. I was in the pits at Mobile the night he passed away, I'm glad I'm not the only person who still remembers him.
