Toby, I think I know that guy lol He was cute back then ;D From what I understand Johnny used to be one of the best and hasn't lost it. He still races some, and does great I might add!! He is the Johnny Stokes of Stokes and company at Columbus Speedway better known as the baddest bullring in the south!! Thanks for posting that one ;D

Wonder how he went from #48 to # 1, racing hard? ;D If I can find someone who has a picture of his car now, I will post it. He has or at least had a 2 seater and sometime for donations for certain fund raisers he would take people around the fast track at the bullring. After I saw Renegade when she went for a ride and got out looking a bit white I decided that wasn't for me #praying# ;D

Remember them cars well. Hated the fiberglass fenders on them thangs. They ran wings on late models at Warren Speedway in south Arkansas. Bet if you asked Johnny he race there at the Pink Tomato Festival.

Johnny drove another red "The Rebel" car in the '90's along with teammate Robbie Starnes. Both cars had the same scheme - red with the Rebel flag, #48 on the rear quarter and the #1 (Stokes) and #77 (Starnes) as the actual car number on the door.
Johnny is not really retired from racing, he still races when he has a chance too. Had some success last season, with several great finishes against stiff competition including a near-win at North Alabama Speedway after a charge from the rear of the field.
Stokes has gone from being one of the most accomplished races to ever come from Mississippi to one of the most renowned promoters in the country. Not a bad track record.
