I received these pictures for the Mississippi Racing History site and thought I'd share them here also. These are pictures of Jackson International Speedway from 1981 and 1998. Time marches on !!

I think '80 or '81 was the last time I was there, it was getting in pretty bad shape then even though the pictures don't show it. There were a lot of cut tires from the aggregate pulling up out of the old pavement then.

That's it !! It's still there among the Pines. All of the buildings, stands and fencing is gone now, but the old track remains.

Lake Speed did run at JIS when he wasn't busy with NASCAR.

I recently found this site on the net and noticed some info about JIS (Jackson International Speedway). The track was the home track for Lake Speed prior to making it to the big show. Other drivers that raced regularly at the track include: The Allison's - Bobby, Donnie and Davey, Rusty Wallace, DW, Harry Gant, Neil Bonnet, Skip Manning (Cup RoY '76), Ellis Palasinee (Open Wheel legend), Dale Earnhardt (believe it or not he was once the crew chief for DW's late model in the early '70's) and many other drivers.
The city that has the track - Clinton, MS wanted the track closed and started having road blocks outside the track after the races to get those who had a couple of drinks. The track briefly closed while the owner tryed to sell it. It was for sale for several years but a deal could never be worked about because the owner wanted to sell the track but keep the concessions. DW worked real hard to purchase the track but would not agree to allow the owner to keep the concessions. While the track was closed developers built houses close the the track and the city passed an ordinance for noice thus making sure the track would never see another race car.
It's real sad to see the track now as I have many wonderful memories there as a kid watching my dad win races there - Bob Williams #76.
Hope you enjoy the info I have provided and let me know if you have any questions.
