We will be there with Miss Chicken. They want let us race her because they said "She's too Late Model" !! I don't think Jack Brown and his 29 Ford "B-Car" will be ready. We are working hard on it but we have a long way to go.

Could definitely be Mobile, the wall and fence are right and the banking looks pretty steep like Mobile was. That looks like the car Ellis raced after the rear engine car got totaled, I'm guessing it's very late '60's. Mobile stopped running regular Supermodified shows in '69 or '70 but they would run one or two special shows a year up into at least the '80's and Ival always drove Artis's #30 for those so it could have been any time from about '68-'72.

Thanks for the info. I was told the picture was from the early 80's but that just couldn't be correct.

As I said, they ran an occasional special show at Mobile well into the '80's but I thought Ellis's car had a big block in it by that time. It could have been as late as the early '80's, I think Ival passed away while leading the supermodified feature in '82 or '83. Also, I see that they aren't wearing fire suits (for sure, Ival isn't). I don't think they allowed anybody to race without a fire suit after about '75 or '76.
I wish I could have gone down and seen Miss Chicken over the holiday!

It was good to see the old guys give the young kids a run for it. I was glad to see Jerry Inmon and George Paul make the big race but Chris Wall had it hooked up.

Miss Chicken would love to ome up but we haven't been invited. We almost missed the Ival Cooper Memorial Race. Saturday morning we cleaned the car and managed to get the distributor wet. We could not get the car to crank at all. We cleaned the distributor 3 times and replaced the plugs twice. She would not fire. About 2pm we called Mr. Barney Barefield (Owner of SCMP) and informed him of our problems and that we would not be able to attend. About 3PM I received a call from the Cooper Family requesting that we bring the car anyway. What could I say !! We put the car back together and to our surprise she fired right up. I can still hear Dad yelling "Don't touch nothing" !! We loaded her on the trailer and off we went. It came time for the National Anthem and once again she cranked and we made 2 laps around the track with the flag. At intermission they let us take the track again for 5 hot laps. On the 4th Lap she started missing and backfiring so we brought her to the pits and loaded her up. We got home about 1:30am Sunday morning. We pushed it off the trailer to keep from waking up the neighbors. Sunday afternoon we tried to crank it to put it back in the shop and she would not start. I think (hope) we have a cracked distributor cap.
