I was talking to a friend of my dad's.We call him Gary Paul, but his name is Gary McDaniels. He used to race "B-Cars" which was basically like a super modified from the like 70's-80's.At Riverside Speedway in West Memphis,Ark. they had three classes of cars back in the day."A-Car" which was a sprint car."B-Car" which was a wingless super modified type of car."C-Car" which was a latemodel but back then it was camaro's and other cars like that from back in Jerry Inmon's day.Now Gary Paul told me three stories on his brother Phillip McDaniels. My dad has told me Phillip, also known as "Flip" could drive a junk racecar better than anyone else but if you put him in a high dollar ride he's gonna trash it.
Gary told me one story about Phillip flipping over the fence in turns 3 and 4 at Riverside and landing in the pits and driving the car back on the racetrack and racing some more.
He also flipped so much that someone spray painted on the bottom of the floorpan "FLIP" so that way when he flipped you could read....sure 'nuff he flipped.
And the one that gets me is he knocked the left front tire off the car on the start of the race and led the whole race without a left front tire on the car and won the race and went into turn 1 after the checkered flag and knocked the right front off of it.
Im only 16 years old.I enjoy hearing stories from a long time ago no matter what they are.So maybe you could share a good story with me?

Neat story! I would imagine there are some that post in this section that has some really good stories to tell, and there are some already in this section. I think our driver( in the time frame that I have been attending the races) to have flipped a few times would be Bizkit and Jeff!

Some time in the mid '60's, probably '66 or '67, they were having a 200 lapper for supermodifieds at Pensacola. Bill Roynan was driving Fred "Ironhead" Moore's R1 car then, he was leading easily. Those cars of course used a drag link and tie rod to steer the front wheels, and Bill's tie rod broke or separated partway through the first 100 lap segment. The drag link was steering the right front, but the left front wasn't connected to the steering wheel any more. The car was carrying the left front all the way through the corners, and when Bill would set it down on the straight it would smoke and chatter for a few yards then caster would straighten it up and it would roll until he picked it up going into the corner again. Skip Wetjen was the promotor and I think Eddie Niedermayer was the flagman in those days, Skip had Eddie black flag Roynan. Roynan refused to stop and Wetjen was getting really animated and livid on the flag stand. Finally they red flagged it and stopped all the cars, but Roynan kept motoring around the track. Skip got one of those long, 4-cell flashlights with the red shield around the end from one of the Sheriff's deputies and went through the gate onto the track. He tried to flag Roynan down, but all Roynan did was chase Skip all the way down to the apron and make him dive headfirst over the pit wall! Roynan stopped and Wetjen hopped back over the wall and got in Roynan's face. Roynan reached out and popped Skip right in the face!
Of course, Roynan was ejected and suspended, Skip told him that he would never be allowed to race on one of Skip's tracks again. Roynan just told Skip that he had been racing for 10 years without racing on any of Skip's tracks, and that he figured he could manage to get by in the future without racing on them. I guess Roynan was right, he was still racing asphalt sprint cars very competitively up into the early '90's but I haven't seen or heard from Skip Wetjen in at least 30 years.
