Week 11 Crossville & Tazewell Tennessee May/12,13/063
Our double header weekend started with the O’Reilly Southern All-stars in Crossville, Tennessee. Shortly after arriving and greeting the officials we walked the pit area and were able to see a lot of drivers that are not on our regular tour. We dropped of various Christian tracts at each hauler and were able to get many prayer requests and updates on previous ones we had been praying for since the Battle of the Bluegrass Series race at Scenic Raceway last year. At the drivers meeting I spoke on telling the Whole truth and nothing but the truth. I read about 5 explanation statements that insurance companies have had submitted by drivers they insure. “An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car, and then vanished.” I had been driving my car for 40 years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had the accident.” I glanced at my mother-in-law and headed over the embankment.” The pedestrian had no clue which way he was headed, so I ran over him.” “The telephone pole was approaching at a high rate of speed.” “I attempted to swerve out of its path when it struck my front end.” These excuses may bring a smile, and some probably were meant to. But they reminded us all how prone we are to stretch the truth, and shade the facts, especially when it makes us look better or gets us out of trouble. I shared that the book of Proverbs says in chapter 12, “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.” So as a reminder let’s all be careful to speak the whole truth at all times, “nothing but the truth.” Then I was able to pray both there and in the tower for the invocation.
Saturday was part two of the double header and a whole different set of drivers running for points in a national series called the “Lucas Oil series.” This race in Tazewell at the “Bad Fast Taz Speedway, had a huge fan following and people were packed in to where it was standing room only. We passed out another stack of various tracts at each hauler also and put some “supported by prayer-D.R.O. stickers” on a bunch of cars that asked for them. At the drivers meeting here I spoke of the characteristics of the track and how it was shaped like a bowl where even the straight-a-ways are banked. It reminded me of hiking as a kid in the Appalachian Mountains and seeing a sign pointing us to the Devil’s Soup Bowl, a geographical formation we assumed as we joked about what kind of soup the devil’s bowl would have in it. When we got there it was a large sunken in area shaped like a bowl with absolutely nothing in it but dead leaves and weeds. I mean, it could have been a beautiful pond or lake or something special. I thought what a perfect name for a formation that offers nothing but death and nuisances, because the devil is the great deceiver. His menu is a bowl of tricks that deliver empty promises and broken dreams. Satan began his deceitful work of substituting nothing for something when he tricked Eve in the garden and he has never changed his plan. He tried that on Jesus, but his efforts were thwarted by Scripture and the devil left Him. (Matt 4:9-11) So I asked the drivers and onlookers, how do you know if you’re offered one of Satan’s lies? He will say, “Did God really say you can’t have fun, party, take drugs, drink alcohol, be rich, famous, or even satisfied? Satan will convince you that you deserve those things but they lead to empty promises and broken dreams. Try this when you are unsure of the origin of an offer. Test it with Scripture, Ask people that are Godly and wise, and most definitely pray about it. Don’t fall for the devil’s bowl of empty lies. Satan will offer nothing but tricks and deceit. John 8:44 says he is the father of all lies and he speaks of his own resources for he is a liar. I prayed a prayer for safety and for general requests mentioned in the pit area earlier. Later, I was blessed to see an old friend, a walking miracle and answer to several hundred prayers. Duayne Hommell had arrived to watch the race and he signed his autograph on several items for hundreds of fans. You see Duayne was never to recover from a terrible personal vehicle wreck. The doctors said he will never be more than furniture. He would never see, walk, talk, eat, function, hear, understand, etc, etc.. I said, “I’ll let God decide that” and several thousand folks prayed with us for Duayne. Oh by the way he is doing ALL that now and is getting better each day. In his own words, “GOD ROCKS.” Join us in prayer for these requests or just pick one and pray for it this week.
