Week 12 Checkered Flag Speedway, Hohenwald, TN 5/20/06
A new series started this weekend called the Southern Regional Racing Series, in Hohenwald Tennessee.
Over a month ago a Christian driver asked Dirt Racing Outreach if we would open the first event with a
devotion, prayer, and invocation. After much prayer Robin and I had a peace about skipping our series race
in Cleveland, to start this series the right way with God first. Dirt Racing Outreach, D.R.O., had never been to
Checkered Flag Speedway, so it was a great opportunity to hand out God’s word in the form of the dirt racing
New Testament. We were able to give to each team (85) a racing Bible with a racing tract in each for a bookmark.
The series had a great attendance and at the drivers meeting we talked about two things vital for the series to
succeed, consistency and teamwork I told them the old story of a salesman traveling across the country. While he
was driving he became lost and was reading a map when he drove off in a ditch. The car was definitely stuck up to
the axles in mud, when a farmer walked up with an old mule beside him. The farmer said. “Looks like you could use
old Warwick to pull you out.” The salesman thought to himself, that old mule doesn’t look like he could pull me, much
less this big old Lincoln town car. Well with not many options he agreed with the farmer and they tied a rope to
the mule and the car. The farmer said, “Pull Ralph!” “Pull George!” “Pull Fred!” “Pull Warwick!”. And old
Warwick pulled the car right out of the mud. Amazed, the salesman asked why the farmer called out those other
names before he called out Warwick’s name. The farmer said, “Once Warwick realized he is part of a team he
can do anything.” Then I read Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Not my looks,
not my strength, not my wealth, not my intelligence, but through Christ. I explained that Christ has to be in anything
and everything for there to be success. All things are stronger with Him, in work, marriage, family, and in this series.
I explained that anything that is a new venture will have rough and rocky roads along the way and how we rebound
will determine our future. Usually, after eighteen months, you can tell if it’s going to work or not. Get ready for some
trials and some criticism but remember that you can do all things through Christ. I prayed for the series and for
safety and after the flagman, the tech official, and the series president spoke to the teams, their first trial came in the
form of a monsoon that eventually caused the event to be rescheduled. I was blessed to get done what God asked
me to do before the farmer’s prayers were answered to feed their crops. Join me in prayer for this series and for
these also:
Matt’s recovery after successful surgeries PRAISE—Surgery went well and better than expected
2 Mike’s health
Ray’s health
B.J.’s health PRAISE—Successful surgery
Katrina’s mom heart, arteries
Tim’s health

A mans walk with God PRAISE—Much improved week
