Week 17 Duck River//Thunder Hill, Speedways 6/30 & 7/1 2006
God called us away from our comfort zone, into two first time visits at speedways Dirt Racing Outreach had not been to before this past weekend. Oh but God takes our weakness and makes it strong for His glory. We stopped first at Duck River Speedway on Saturday night. We met with the announcer that had invited us to come shortly after arriving in Wheel, Tennessee. Let me tell you, I never thought you could travel four hours in any particular direction and still be in the state of Tennessee. We saw many new faces and used several things to tell people about the love of Jesus. We passed out racer’s prayers to all the drivers. We also handed out about 30 copies of the Dirt Racer’s New Testament. About 25 drivers had already received a copy of the Bible from us at other tracks so we gave them this month’s edition of the magazine Christian Motor Sport. Each crew and fan in the grandstands received one million dollars from us. Wait, let me explain, Pastor Jack gave us a few hundred tracts that look like a million dollar bill with a short gospel presentation printed on the edges of the back. It was a massive hit with the fans with the recent news of Bill Gates can give billions to charities also. At the drivers meeting we introduced D.R.O. and what we stand for and talked about Hebrews 4:16 and I Peter 5:7. I told them of my toddler, Shon, who one night last week woke me up by standing at the edge of our bed. If he had been a stranger, it would have been a criminal intrusion. If he had been just a friend it would have just been plain obnoxious. But it was a boldness of my boy stating, “I want in the middle of your bed.” I was struck by the beauty of a child’s security knowing he is wanted and loved. As Christians we are welcome just like that in the presence of our heavenly Father. “We can come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.” We can approach Him confidently about anything-our needs, and our desires-knowing that he cares for us. As writer, Phillip Brooks said, “If man is man and God is God, to live without prayer is not just an awful thing; it’s an infinitely foolish thing.” Then we prayed both there and in the tower for the invocation before our National Anthem. Originally this was our only planned race this weekend but the Storm Pay series officials invited us many times throughout the evening to their next race at Thunder Hill the next night. We agreed knowing my sister and brother-in-law just lived an hour away and we had an open invitation to sleep, eat, and fellowship with them anytime.
Sunday night we drove a couple of hour to Thunder Hill Speedway in Summertown, TN and met the owner, Wayne Burns, and staff. They welcomed us with open arms and wanted us to give a devotion and prayer just like we would anywhere else. He had heard of D.R.O. and encouraged us to keep on keeping on as he also gave his testimony of following Christ. We passed out 20 more Bibles and 11 more Christian Motor Sport Magazines. For every child we saw in the pits and grandstands we gave them 10 commandment coins with the plan of salvation on the back. The children were very appreciative and the parents as well. At the drivers meeting we talked about the last 6 or 7 races in the southeast. In each race there were drivers who were positioned to win or finish in the top 5 when something happened unexpectedly. They confidently had faith in their equipment and themselves. Their fate was a poor finishing payday, but for others who were behind them all of a sudden they were in a great position and a better payday what joy. Then I opened the Bible to Matthew 20 and read of the man that owned a vineyard. How he went out and hired men to work several times throughout the day up to the 11th hour. So at the payout window, those who worked all day expected more than what they were hired for and agreed upon, since others had only worked for a little bit and received the same thing they did. I shared with them that this was just like the Kingdom of God. Nobody is too old, too bad, or unacceptable to become a Christian. Today is the day of salvation. We asked who would you rather be like the one who trusted in self and stuff or the one who was given a gift that has rewards out of this world? I encouraged everyone to accept Christ before their number is up. I welcomed them to see me after, talk with their pastor, or visit their hometown Bible believing Church and accept Christ. They shall receive the same eternal life as a life long Christian, the same joy, the same peace, the same everything. I heard a few loud “AMENS” and talked with some local drivers who want to take a stand for God at their track and pray before the race like we do since they already huddle up at their hauler before each race to pray for safety. They each have scripture on their cars and I was blessed to hear their testimonies. I prayed before the Anthem and headed back home to spend two days off with my family.
As you read this part be in the spirit of prayer;
Earl, Al, Patrick, Kim, Roger, Rocky, Dusty, Matt, Ed, Mike S, Mike H, B.J., Duayne, Ray, Margaret, Wanda, Mr. S, Rusty, KC, Tim, Jeremy, and Douglas all desire your prayers as they battle cancer, disease, sickness and pray for healing and recovery.
Remember these families as they grieve over lost loved ones; The Knowles, Duggans, and the Sewells
God Bless you all for your prayers and support
