Week 24 Crossville, Nashville, Moulton, AL 8/11,12/06
We have had a couple of weeks of rain outs in the Series and a skipped race to visit a driver in Vanderbilt Hospital, (Jeff Purvis), so we were ready to go this weekend reloaded and refreshed. Friday night we went to Crossville Speedway and had a wonderful time with no schedules to meet as we ministered in the pits taking and checking on prayer requests and handing out racer prayers and D.R.O. logo stickers. We got all the way to the feature when the monsoon hit and the race was postponed.
Saturday morning I drove over to Nashville Super Speedway where the ARCA and NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series’ were racing. I met with the ARCA Chaplain, Bill Krick with FOCUS ministries. He got me signed in to go and pray with two of our dirt late model drivers who are advancing quickly in the higher ranks of NASCAR. First, we met with both drivers and we all attended the Chapel service in the media center. Then after the service, I was able to circle up with the Clements crew in their hauler, and pray for patients, safety, quick reflexes, to stay out of harms way, and for God to bless them. Shortly after that I circled up with the Allagier team on pit road and did the same. Then I was off to Moulton Speedway in Alabama for an S.R.R.S dirt series race. We were blessed all weekend to stay with a fellow Christian driver and their hospitality was a blessing. We all rode together to Moulton and had some wonderful discussions on the Bible and God being at the tracks. At the track, I met the owners and staff and walked the pits many times meeting drivers and handing out Bibles, Tracts, DRO logo stickers, and Racer’s Prayers. At the drivers meeting we discussed “Never Quitting”. I told them of a minister who had a dream that he was pounding away at this huge chunk of granite with a pick-axe. But hard as he tried, he couldn’t chip off even a small piece. At last, tired and disappointed, he decided to give up. Just then a stranger appeared and said, “Were you not given orders to do that work? Your duty is to give your best regardless of what happens.” The minister with a renewed determination lifted the pick-axe higher than ever and gave the granite a crushing blow. It broke into a million pieces. He had almost quit-one blow to soon. The same thing happens in racing across the board. Drivers have blown engines, tires, transmissions and many other failures time and time again. Those who don’t quit usually with determination end up with a large win streak or great finish streak out of perseverance. I read I Corinthians 15:58 “Be steadfast in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain.” The Lord wants us to keep working at our God-given task no matter how difficult it might be. Even when success seems out of reach or impossible, we are to remain steadfast, assured that there will be ample reward for those that persevere. I asked the crowd at that point, have you grown tired in your service for God? Have you given up on that lost mom, dad, son or daughter? Have you become discouraged, tempted to throw in the towel? Have you been a Christian for a long time not ever leading anyone to Christ or pointing them in the right direction? I told them to not forget the ministers dream and even more important not to forget God’s promise spoken by Paul in Galatians 6:9, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not loose heart.” You may just be one seed away from your goal.
Failure is not defeat unless you stop trying. Then I prayed both there and on the front stretch before the anthem and God blessed the evening with safety, calm tempers, and good health.
As you read be in the spirit of prayer for these:
