Do you ever find yourself in the middle of a situation and you are not sure how to handle it? It may not be a big deal to some, but it is to you. Say you were at a friend’s house and a couple of people started drinking beer. Then a poker game was getting ready to break out. There had been a few words of choice being said by a few people as well. Now most of these people are friends of yours. Would you feel uncomfortable? Would you say anything? Would you leave?
This is a tough situation. Some people think that you are overdoing the Christian thing by leaving or saying anything. Some think that it would be silly to leave. You are not the one gambling, drinking or cussing. It is hard for a Christian to be around sin. It does not help when it is their friends doing it. By leaving it will keep your mind pure and you will not be exposed to such things. You can walk out feeling that you did the right thing. On the other hand what if you stay? Maybe you can talk to some of them and help them realize what they are doing and how it may be affecting others and how it effects you. Jesus was criticized for having dinner at Matthew’s house with tax collectors and sinners. Jesus responds in (Matthew 9:12-13) 12;On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13;but go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." Jesus was eating with the sinners to share with them his word. He loves the sinner but hates the sins.
As Christians you will be in situations that you are going to feel uncomfortable in. Do you run, or do you stay? That is the choice you will have to make. I do know that as Christians, if your heart is right and you have faith, you will be able to understand the situation and hit it head on. Do not be ashamed of him and he will not be ashamed of you.
