Tithing, that is truly a sign of stepping out in faith. The bible tells us that we need to give a tenth of our income as a tithe. That is truly hard to do sometimes. It seems as if every time I turn on a Christian TV station, there is another preacher asking for your tithe and to give, give, give. I know people hate to hear that sermon in church of how we are to tithe and give to the church. With so many asking for your money, and so much pressure to give your money, it is easy to see why people turn away from the idea. But you have to think for a minute. If it was not for God blessing you with everything you have, job, home, family, food, and clothing were would you be. Is a tenth of all that really that much? I was talking to my wife last night. Now I am the first to admit that I do not tithe as much as I should. This has bothered me and that is why, I am sure, that God laid this message on my heart. But we were talking at how much money we actually spend eating out in a month. We eat out our monthly tithe and more each month. In fact a lot of the times we go right after church and spend a chunk eating out with family and friends. While searching scripture I read this: (Malachi 3: 7-10) 7: Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you," says the LORD Almighty. But you ask, how are we to return? 8: Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, how do we rob you? In tithes and offerings. 9: You are under a curse—the whole nation of you—because you are robbing me. 10: Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the LORD Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
Robbing God. Now that is scary. After reading this scripture I know that I have to make a change. I am going to give my tenth and have faith that God will provide. I have faith in God with everything else; I have to have faith in this. Whether you give to your church or you give to the preachers on TV, it does not matter. You are giving back to God. A small sacrifice you are making for the sacrifice he made.
