From the time I was a little boy my parents and grandparents always spoke to us about saving for the future. Think about the future. As we grow older and start families we are thinking about investing for the future. We look to buy homes that are sturdy so they last a long time. Purchase the best car on the market so it will last us. We buy health insurance to cover us if we have an emergency or have to see a doctor. We take out life insurance to help our family if something happens to us. We want our spouse and kids to be taken care of. We invest in the stock market, savings accounts, and money markets. We invest in our retirement. Basically we look for any way we can to cover ourselves for the future. What about your eternal future? Are you investing in that?
(Matthew 6:20-21) 20:But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21:For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. This is not just talking about money. It is also talking about what you do here on earth. We are going to be judged for our actions in life. Yes we are to give financially. That is required of us. We also will be judged, by how much of ourselves we give. Have you given your neighbor a hand lately or how about the homeless person on the corner? I am not talking about cash. Have you visited your neighbor or given them a ride somewhere? How about fixing a couple of sandwiches and giving them to a homeless person to fill their belly. This is investing in your future. It is great that you attend church and you give your tithe. But is that all you are storing up? (Ezekiel 24: 14) 14: I the LORD have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions, declares the Sovereign LORD. There is so much more that we can do that does not involve money. Invest in your eternal future.
Sir Winston Churchill said; we make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.
